As a dental professional, you already regard too much sugar as the enemy – by now we’re all only too aware of its effects on oral health. But a recent French study has suggested that it’s not just tooth decay that might be caused by gulping down sugary drinks and fruit juice too often; it’s cancer. The observational study couldn’t go as far as to say that sugar causes cancer, but it observed that people drinking 100ml of sugary juice on a daily basis were 18% more likely to develop the disease, with breast cancer in women being the most likely. Experts are now calling for more research into the mechanisms behind the link.
